Manhunt launched for callous thug who carried out vicious attack on disabled pensioner

Police are hunting a cowardly thug who launched a vicious attack on a disabled pensioner weighing just SIX stone.

At less than five-foot tall Alan Barnes was an easy target for the thief that assaulted him.

The vulnerable 67-year-old was attacked outside his home.

Alan was born with a number of defects including sight and growth problems after his mother contracted German measles during pregnancy.

And on Sunday night a would-be robber chose to take advantage of the vulnerable 4ft 6 man, pouncing on him outside his Gateshead home.

Frail Alan was knocked to the ground by the thug, breaking his collar bone as he landed.

The mugger then demanded money as he searched his victim's pockets.
